Intermediate Designer

Are you someone who has an opinion on the world we work in, the culture that shapes us & the experiences we encounter AND want to join a 3D design team that love to think, challenge, and deliver across a diverse range of projects?

Currently, we are looking for an exceptional and creative 3D Designer to join our Portland team, and work on an exciting array of local and global projects within multiple sectors (Retail, F&B, Workspace, Aviation, Branded Environments). We strategise, and design, through the lens of people, behaviour and journeys, which allows us to work across a diverse range of scales, from retail pop ups to masterplanning entire airports.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passionate and proactive approach to the development, translation and implementation of a creative project vision across the full spectrum of the design process. From brief development to technical drawings, and everything in-between. You should be a highly creative and conceptual individual who has excellent skills in strategic thinking, interior design, and communicating your ideas effectively through different mediums. Experience working within a similar specialist organisation is a must and you should be able to clearly demonstrate your ability to work from concept to completion.

In this position, you will be expected to get involved with researching briefs, coordinating design content, support creative leads, and taking an active role in client engagement.

While this role requires a minimum of 4 years' experience within a similar industry, we would also be open to considering more senior candidates. For Senior Designers, we expect them to have demonstrable experience leading projects, being responsible for delivery and new business, and fostering strong client relationships.

Essential requirements for the positions include, but aren't limited to:

  • Contributing and maintaining the high visual standard that Portland Design sets and ensuring continuous innovation.
  • Contribute to our studio culture (how we think, work and play).
  • Taking a supporting role in client meetings.
  • Be able to confidently present design work within the Environments and wider Portland team.
  • Ability to build, maintain and strengthen client and design team relationships.
  • Attend site meetings when applicable and liaise confidently with contractors, suppliers, and sub-contractors.
  • Supporting in the creation of presentations to present strategy, ideas or executions for senior team or client approval.
  • To be hands-on and involved in creating concepts, development and integrating research and conceptual thinking into presentation decks.
  • Continually work to improve communication and relationships across all parties.
  • Being able to manage your own time and workload, ensuring to always keep senior team updated when required.
  • Getting involved in producing concept work through hand-drawing or digital media.
  • A desire to develop yourself and those around you.
  • An interest and keen desire to keep abreast of design trends, brands and new technologies.

*Please note that due to the nature of our work and projects, some local or international travel may sometimes be required.

Requirements and Skills:

  • Must possess design talent, creative energy, management and organisational skills.
  • Good knowledge of the interior/architectural design process.
  • Good knowledge of materials and specifications
  • An ability to work well in a team environment, foster strong working relationships, and have an interest in sharing knowledge.
  • An ability to anticipate, identify and resolve problems and recognise alternative solutions.
  • An ability to provide excellent, consistent service to internal and external clients in a professional manner.

  • Adobe Suite; Photoshop and InDesign (Necessary).
  • Microsoft Office; Excel, Word and PowerPoint (Necessary).
  • SketchUp (Necessary).
  • Enscape and/or Twin Motion (Advantageous).
  • Hand-drawing (Advantageous).
