Senior Interior Designer
The Senior Interior Designer is a senior-level professional and technical leader responsible for overseeing documentation and coordination for complex interior projects. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, this role manages interdisciplinary collaboration, mentors teams, and ensures project execution aligns with both firm standards and client goals. The Senior Interior Designer serves as the go-to technical and process expert for interiors projects and plays a key role in construction administration, consultant leadership, and internal quality control. This position is ideal for seasoned professionals who are licensed or certified and ready to influence process, documentation standards, and project delivery excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Design and Technical Execution
- Lead production of design and construction documents for interior projects, including detailed plans, schedules, specifications, and finish documentation. Responsible for the BIM execution of each project.
- Oversee technical execution, including code compliance, building systems integration, and interior detailing. Provide a high level of technical expertise and problem-solving within interior projects.
- Maintain project quality, design quality, consistency, and coordination across all phases.
- Final deliverables need minimal review by the project manager or principal before final deliverables are distributed.
- Provide a high-level input on constructability and detailing strategies.
Team Communication and Management
- Conduct design and technical reviews; support professional growth within the team.
- Develop and oversee teamwork plans and task management. Assist with resourcing of tasks and personnel.
- Provides project status updates for projects weekly within project management software.
Consultant and Client Coordination
- Lead all coordination with MEP, lighting, and specialty consultants as needed for the interiors scope. Contribute to design meetings and reviews.
- Able to lead internal and client design presentations and coordination meetings with minimal assistance.
- Main point of contact for the project's interior consultants. Has strong relationships with consultants and representatives.
- Has a strong understanding of engineering trades, finish materials, furniture systems, and supporting representatives. Has the ability to resolve coordination issues and clashes.
Leadership
- Champion firm QA/QC processes and documentation standards.
- Lead training sessions and support firmwide technical initiatives.
- Participate in the annual review of the firm's standard interior details.
- Attend a minimum of (2) conferences a year focusing on continuing education.
- Participate in mentorship with 2-3 interior designers or junior staff across the design team.
Construction Administration
- Main interior point of contact during the construction phase, including submittal and finish sample review, RFIs, punch lists, and site observation reports.
- Able to consistently provide site observation reports and visits without supervision or oversight. Strong understanding of construction field operations and sequencing.
- Strong understanding of all AIA documents utilized in the construction phase.
- Experienced in construction administration delivery software and processes.
- Able to provide Bulletin, ASI, and construction sketches with minimal review by the project manager or principal.
Qualifications
- Certified Interior Designer (NCIDQ) or registered architect
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or a related field.
- 10+ years of professional experience in interior design, with demonstrated technical and coordination skills.
- Proficiency in Revit, Procore, Bluebeam, and Microsoft/Google Suite tools.
- Master of communication, organization, and team collaboration skills.
- Strong leadership skills in construction document production and consultant coordination.
