Architectural Designer

As an Architectural Designer in Gensler, you will manage, organize, and coordinate with design team members to deliver architectural projects across all phases of work. You will be responsible for leading design development from concept through construction documentation, ensuring that design intent is consistently and accurately translated into high-quality design deliverables. You will resolve complex technical and design challenges, providing direction and guidance to the project team, and coordinate activities and communication between the design team and allied disciplines. The role requires comprehensive knowledge of architectural principles and practices locally and regionally, with occasional travel as needed.

What You Will Do

• Work closely with Design Director, Studio Director, Design Manager, Design team to develop architectural solutions from conceptual level through construction documentation
• Direct preparation of conceptual designs, space plans, presentations, design development
• Mentor and coach junior architectural staff
• Lead coordination with Design/Technical team and Project/Design Manager(s)
• Lead coordination with client team, project manager, construction manager and others to develop design deliverables, field reports, construction documents, freehand sketches, responses to RFIs and queries
• Responsible for coordination and quality control of design and construction documents
• Review and manage project program and design deliverables
• Resolve complex design issues with innovative and practical solutions.
• Support project sustainability targets throughout project phases and actively engage in delivering them. Coordinate sustainability targets with project consultants and engineers.
• Implement sustainable design strategies in every project stage and investigate solutions to sustainable design challenges.
• Work collaboratively with the team to optimize sustainability performance through design iterations and research.
• Lead climate focused analysis and studies for each project.
• Contribute to office activities, initiatives, and learning programs.

Your Qualifications

• Advanced degree in Architecture or Design preferred.
• 5+ years of relevant architecture and design experience, with a strong background designing multiple building typologies of varying scale.
• Proficient in design modeling/visualization tools including but not limited to Revit, Rhino, Enscape; having experience with Excel and computational tools like grasshopper/dynamo is also a plus.
• Proficient in production software including but not limited to the Adobe Creative Suite, experience working with video/animation software such as After Effect and Premier is a plus.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Outstanding graphic presentation skills.
• Creative, original thinking and technically biased, demonstrated through a strong creative and technical portfolio.
• Knowledge in sustainable design principles required.
• LEED, WELL, Fitwel, Greenmark or other rating systems accreditation preferable.
• Previous experience in sustainable design projects preferable. Especially built projects with LEED, Living Building Challenge, WELL Building Standard, Fitwel and /or Net Zero Building certification.
• Demonstrate a collaborative and integrated approach towards achieving high sustainability project goals.
• Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines efficiently.
• Ability to develop collaborative relationships across the firm, with clients, and with other key partners.

Your Design Technology Qualifications

Essential:

• Good working knowledge and experience in Autodesk Revit for design authoring, documentation, data extracts and project delivery.
• Good knowledge and experience with the strategic planning, and setup of BIM projects.
• Good knowledge and experience with collaboration within the BIM context, including cloud-based markups, consultant coordination and clash detection.
• Good knowledge and experience with interoperability workflows between Rhino & Revit throughout all the stages of a project.

Desirable:

• Basic understanding and familiarity in Rhinoceros for design authoring.
• Good knowledge and experience with real-time rendering processes, and material creation & management within the context of integrated BIM and parametric workflows.
• Understanding of the capabilities and application of Information Management tools such as Aconex, Asite, Newforma, etc.
• Basic understanding and familiarity with Computational Design applications such as Grasshopper and/or Dynamo.
• Basic understanding and familiarity with simulation principles and processes, including interpretation, and application of results.
• Basic understanding and familiarity with the use of VR walkthroughs and panoramas.
