Technical Leadership Role

A recognized practitioner who possesses exceptional technical abilities. Provides technical leadership and acts as an advisor on projects. Manages the firm's resources (people, processes and tools) and assignments with proficiency, fluency and aptitude. Teaches and mentors staff and effectively embodies and expresses the firm's values and mission.

Responsibilities

  1. Supports the Lead Architect in the coordination of project team efforts to facilitate effective execution of project technical design and delivery of construction documents
  2. Coordinates design group interaction both internally and externally, including leading consultant team work sessions
  3. Works with PIC/Lead Architect on development of production schedule and manages to that schedule, including review of drawings, specifications and samples
  4. Exercises skills of persuasion and negotiation on critical issues
  5. Facilitates technical reviews as part of the QMS
  6. Supervises the architectural team and the overall project, including leading team to effectively meet deadlines
  7. Writes, reviews and coordinates specifications prior to issue
  8. Leads team meetings to discuss project issues, technical issues and coordination with other disciplines
  9. Verifies construction detail documentation conforms to HKS standards, best practice and quality expectations
  10. Incorporates sustainable and integrated design solutions into projects
  11. Manages the technical resolution and coordination of a project
  12. Attends client presentations contributing to discussions with demonstrable technical expertise and detailed project knowledge
  13. Performs product research; assists project designers with material and systems evaluation to make proper selections
  14. Validates that the building and statutory requirements for the project are met
  15. Coordinates with project managers, clients, public agencies, consultants and contractors to incorporate engineering systems, to respond to requests for information, clarifications and modifications, and to obtain approvals and adjust scope of services
  16. Attends on-site visits, field reviews and project meetings and documents these visits as appropriate
  17. Resolves conflict effectively and encourages a healthy team environment
  18. Seeks leadership opportunities by providing direction and feedback to team members and collaborating with team leaders
  19. Travel will be required

Qualifications

  • Accredited professional degree in Architectural Technology
  • Typically 8+ years of experience
  • CIAT Membership required
  • Proficiency in architectural software such as AutoCAD, Navisworks and 3D modeling software (including Rhino and Grasshopper) preferred
  • Experience with Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketchup and InDesign graphic software preferred
  • Proficiency in NBS
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite preferred
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Advanced knowledge of sustainability and integrated design guidelines including BREEAM requirements
  • Advanced knowledge of architectural building systems and the QMS process
  • Advanced knowledge of building codes and ability to research and incorporate into technical documents
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time
  • Ability to maintain existing client relationships and build new client relationships
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, concise and professional manner both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to problem solve and apply innovative solutions
  • Ability to collaborate and encourage collaboration in a team environment
  • Ability to effectively meet deadlines at expected quality
