As LS3P's Senior Sustainable Design Specialist, you will lead and implement resilient high performance design initiatives and deliver holistic design solutions through creative problem solving. As a Senior Sustainable Design Specialist, you'll be at the forefront of our commitment to environmental stewardship, driving innovative strategies that elevate performance, reduce impact, and inspire change. You will provide design excellence strategies and building performance expertise for our project teams in our twelve offices across diverse project typologies, with an emphasis on research and development. You will mentor a team of Sustainable Design Specialists and serve as a firmwide resource for sustainability. In addition to collaborating with project teams, you will work closely with LS3P Leadership to shape and achieve company-wide sustainability goals, certification goals, AIA firm commitments and internal education. Core responsibilities are built on the foundation of our commitment to environmental stewardship, ecology, community, and client service; and the mission, vision, and values of LS3P. This position can be based in out of any LS3P office.

A Day in the Life:

  • Serves as a subject matter expert working with firmwide Sustainability Leader, Senior Sustainability Design Specialist, Sustainability Design Specialist, and internal sustainability knowledge team co-chairs on sustainability initiatives, including AIA2030 and the AIA Materials Pledge
  • Works closely with project managers, project designers, and the Sustainability Team to integrate sustainable guiding principles and best practices. Helps to define project task budgets and sustainability work scope.
  • Facilitate project certifications as Project Administrator for LEED, Green Globes, Guiding Principles, WELL, Fitwel, Living Building Challenge, and other systems. Serve as the primary resource for technical and documentation requirements with support from the Sustainability Team and project teams.
  • Works with project teams with a focus on LS3P core typologies of work and client base.
  • Assist in preparation of RFP responses and interview participation as it relates to LS3P's sustainability goals and initiatives.
  • Manage sustainable design consulting services, environmental analysis, and conceptual energy modeling.
  • Assist clients, designers, engineers, and contractors with sustainable design research (including implementation and scoping of these efforts).
  • Manage and review material for design awards support
  • Continue to develop the sustainable design education program and credential maintenance system.

What You Bring To The Table:

EDUCATION AND CREDENTIALS

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or equivalent field of study
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in the following initiatives: AIA Framework for Design Excellence, AIA Materials Pledge, AIA 2030 commitment, AIA Code of Ethics
  • Fluency with application of local, regional, state, and federal codes and policies as they pertain to sustainability initiatives, opportunities, and requirements
  • LEED AP accreditation with a current and active specialty
  • Research and sustainability narrative writing skills
  • In addition to these requirements, preference will be given to candidates with:
    • Licensed, or on licensure pathway, in architecture, engineering, landscape or interior design preferred
    • Living Future Accreditation, WELL, and/or Green Globes accreditation
    • Regenerative practice knowledge
    • Carbon Leadership Forum knowledge and alignment
    • AIA COTE, SE2050, MEP2040 knowledge and alignment

EXPERIENCE

  • 4+ years of experience in an architectural, interior design, or engineering firm setting
  • Extensive project experience in administrating the following certifications: LEED (v4, v4.1, and v5), WELL, Fitwel, Living Building, and other sustainable certifications for design and construction
  • Revit fluency
  • EUI analysis and iterative stage modeling with design support based on findings required
  • Integration of Sustainability into Specification Sets and working with Specification Teams
  • EC3 and other Project Carbon Tracking tools experience required
  • Proficiency in Revit Insight, Cove, or similar energy analysis tools
  • Experience in InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, PowerPoint, and Bluebeam
  • Understanding of energy modeling, daylight analysis, and building commissioning process
  • LCA documentation and analysis experience required (LCCA preferred)
  • In addition to the above requirements, preference will be given to candidates with:
    • Project proposal experience for sustainability and resiliency
    • Award and design submittal experience, including sustainability narratives and diagrams
    • Knowledge and practice of regenerative integrated design and biophilic design
    • Sustainability data analysis, interpretation, and presentation at all project phases Experience in responsible use of AI
    • Experience in working with cost estimators

  • Ability to direct and motivate the work efforts of others, work within teams, and handle stressful situations
  • Excellent communication skills and a strong team ethic
  • Ability to interact professionally with office leadership and clients
  • Ability to self-manage project assignments from start to finish with oversight
  • Ability for a resilient approach, willingness to learn emerging sustainable practices and policies
