IT Telecommunication Designer

The Phoenix office of SmithGroup is looking for an IT Telecommunication Designer to join our team.

Working with us, you will:

  • Read and review architectural, electrical, mechanical, structural design and engineering plans, consulting on space design, material selection, and MEP systems.
  • Prepare program requirements and basis of design reports.
  • Interface with clients, owners, and design team members.
  • Prepare agendas, running design/coordination meetings and providing minutes.
  • Prepare structured cabling design documentation, including drawings and CSI specifications.
  • Review and approve shop drawings and product data submittals and respond to RFIs.
  • Field coordination of installation work.
  • Review and analyze test results.
  • Perform systems coordination, specification writing, BIM modeling, CAD/drafting, field work, and product research and respond to client questions.
  • Manage resources in the development of construction documents.
  • Serve as a technical resource for others throughout the firm, providing thought leadership and subject matter expertise.
  • 5-10% domestic travel may be required.

An ideal candidate has:

  • A bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent.
  • 7+ years of consulting and design experience working as an IT/Telecommunications Designer.
  • A valid credential in a relevant field preferred, including Registered Communications Distribution Designer, Certified Technology Specialist, Physical Security Professional, Certified Protection Professional, CPTED.
  • Strong understanding of electronic security systems, network electronics, and audiovisual systems preferred.
  • An understanding of the architectural design process and construction administration.
  • High proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office.
  • Proficiency with Ekahau and iBWAVE preferred.
  • Knowledge of industry standards including BICSI, IEEE and TIA/EIA.
  • Knowledge of standard equipment manufacturers including Cisco, Aruba, Juniper, Extreme.
  • Competence in Schematic Design reports, Design Development documentation and Construction Documentation phase of the architectural design process.
  • Excellent writing, listening and verbal communications skills, with a strong commitment to learning.
  • Strong organization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and formal documentation.
  • The initiative and ability to contribute to process improvements in addition to project work.

While we may ultimately pay more or less than a posted salary range, at the time of posting the anticipated salary range for this position is $104,000 to $123,000 annually and you are eligible for a performance-based bonus each year.
