Urban Designer

WATG is hiring an Urban Designer for our London office.

The Urban Designer collaborates with planners, architects, and other project team members to design, coordinate, and present ideas relating to a variety of resort, residential, mixed-use, and urban planning and design projects. The Urban Designer works collaboratively with the Planning team on concept development, research, and drawings to meet project schedules and budgets.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops creative design concepts on a wide range of master planning and urban design projects, including large-scale master planned development, mixed-use and infill development, resort and hospitality destination master plan, community and neighborhood-scale master planning and design, and vision master planning
  • Conducts project research and analysis, and completes assignment using research, analysis and critical thinking
  • Develops design concepts, and produces planning and urban design graphics (2D and 3D) and presentation deliverables
  • Develops and advances design thinking and concepts in project work
  • Explores new technologies and software applications under the guidance of the Studio leadership and the Design Technology team
  • Produces working drawings, design sketches, diagrams, schedules and other computer generated or hand-drawn documents
  • Directs and provides guidance to less experienced members of the team in the production of design concepts and oversees their production

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in urban design, planning, architecture, or landscape architecture
  • Working toward a professional registration
  • Environmental accreditation preferred
  • 4+ years of experience in urban design, urban planning, or architecture practices
  • Proficient in MS Office, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, Rhino, Enscape and other rendering software
  • Knowledge of Grasshopper, Ladybug and other sustainability analysis software and mapping tools
  • Some working knowledge of Revit
  • Experience in ArcGIS and GIS analysis
  • Basic knowledge and experience with Midjourney and other latest AI tools approved by WATG for project work
  • Good understanding of land use planning, residential, retail, commercial, and mixed-use development typologies
  • Effective communication skills in verbal presentation, written narrative, and graphic representation
  • Ability to manage multiple project priorities and meet deadlines and budgets consistently
  • Works effectively and collaboratively in a team environment
